The Advent Of Xbox 360 |
The Xbox 360 is a video game console developed by Microsoft with the cooperation of IBM, ATI, Samsung and SiS. It was produced to compete with Sony's Playstation and Nintendo's Wii and as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems. Its Xbox Live Service allows players to compete online, download arcade games and content such as game trailers, TV shows, music videos and rented movies. The Xbox 360 succeeded the Xbox.
The Xbox 360 was announced on MTV early in May, 2005. Towards the end of the month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, all the details of the Xbox 360 were divulged. The Xbox 360 is the first console to provide a near-simultaneous launch in the three major regions and providing wireless controller support at the same time. At the time of release the console sold out completely and by the end of 2006 over 10.4 million units were sold worldwide.
The Xbox 360 comes in three different systems or versions: The Elite, Premier System and the Core System. The three configurations contain different video cables; the core system comes with composite cables, the premium system includes a hybird composite and component cable with optional optical out, while the elite includes the above mentioned cables with the addition of an HDMI cable. All systems carry a one year warranty, however prior to December 31, 2006 the consoles were under a 90 day warranty. Later they were extended to one year, too.
Xbox Live underwent major upgrades with the introduction of Xbox 360. Xbox Live has a Marketplace, Arcade and in November 2006 introduced an exclusive Video Store which allows Xbox 360 owners to download high-definition and standard-definition television shows and movies to view through their Xbox 360 consoles. The Xbox 360 has an extensive amount of bandwidth, video and audio with surround sound. For storage Xbox 360 uses standard dual-layer DVD-ROMs with 7GB of usable space available for game content.
